- Semester Recap
It has been a long, stressful, annoying, fun, and chaotic semester. I've learned a lot of things, i've had fun, i've been stressed, i've missed deadlines, it was pretty much just the average semester for any college student. Some things I have learned from not only this semester, but from all of them are: Everyone is in the same boat: it doesn't matter what your major is or if you have a minor or not or how many tests you have in one week. Everyone is in the same boat and everyone has their struggles and everyone is at the same place in life. Nobody is better than others because their major is harder or they have more exams, college is college. Pick each other up instead of pushing each other down. You need to prioritize yourself: you are not going to get anywhere or get anything done if you are letting yourself go and not keeping up with the things you need to do for yourself. Giving yourself mental health days, making time for self-care, and giving yourself free time are all very important not only for your sanity but for your success. Say yes to last minute plans: don't be so uptight, just go with the flow!! How are you ever going to have fun if you are constantly saying no to fun plans and just hibernating in your room. Be kind to everyone: you never know what anyone is going through, or what they need. Just be kind, it takes nothing to smile at someone or say a kind thing to someone. It is so easy, so why not try to make someones day better? Focus on time management: time management is key, and time management is your friend. Try your absolute best to take control of your time management because it will only help you in the long run. Your feelings are valid: No matter what anyone says, your feelings are valid. No matter what it is about, upset about a crush? upset over an exam? feel like your stressed? anything you have emotions about is valid and do not let anyone tell you any different. Don't put so much pressure on yourself: yes, it is great to do well in your classes, to go to parties, to feel perfect, but everyone makes mistakes and that is ok! You are allowed to make mistakes, you are allowed to mess up, and you are allowed to be sad or stressed or angry. Don't put too much pressure on yourself because at the end of the day you just have to be unapologetically yourself. It is never too late to make new friends: You do not have to be friends with someone since freshman year to be friends with them ever, you can meet new people, expand your group and find more friends. There is nothing wrong with that. You do not have to have your entire future figured out: Yes, we may be in college and nearing graduation, but we are still young. And you definitely do not want to be rushed into a future you don't want to be in. Thats not fair! Take your time to figure it out. Be your own best friend: Of course, friends are great but the best best friend you can ever have is yourself. Nobody knows how to take care of you quite like you do, and nobody knows what you need quite like you do. Take that to your full advantage and take care of yourself I still have a long way to go and a lot more to learn but I have learned so much about myself, my friends, my school, and what it means to be me in only 3 short years. I can't wait to see what else I can learn and what more this life has for me. Thank you for following along and I truly hope I made a difference in someones life.
- Advice from me to you
If you're a freshman starting in college or if you're a college student trying to find their way, this is for you. Here are some things that are so important to remember: NEVER drink too much or get more drunk: This applies especially to when you are at a frat party or a bar. Getting drunk in a safe space is always ok, but drinking too much in a place you don't know too well can be very dangerous and can also lead to embarrassment. Trust me, and save yourself. Be unapologetically yourself: ALWAYS be yourself and let no one change that or judge you for being your true and fullest self. These are the best years of your life. Be yourself because if you have to pretend to be someone else, you will not be able to enjoy it. Go out of your comfort zone (especially the first few months): The absolute best way to get yourself out there and make friends is to get yourself out of your comfort zone. If you are shy, like me, step out of the box, be confident, be yourself, be kind, and take those risks. It can be scary to make new friends and meet new people, but it is so worth the risks, Accept that you will have bad days: you are going to have bad days, stressful days, hard days, and that is more than ok. Take time to yourself, take time to relax, and put yourself first. It's ok to take time for yourself and take a break. You do not have to be best friends with your roommate: many people get the whole roommate thing very wrong. Trust me, I would know, because I got it wrong, at first. My first roommate and I did not work out, and that's ok, we worked better as friends and not roommates, and there is nothing wrong with that. Another thing people often get wrong when it comes to roommates is that you need to be best friends, and you don’t. It will probably be better if you're not best friends. Fan, shower shoes, earbuds, or airpods: nothing else needs to be said. Walk around campus before the first day of class: getting to know where you're going, finding your way around, and locating your classes will make your first day of classes much easier and help your first day to go a little smoother. Do your laundry during the week: the last thing you are going to want to do over the weekend is your laundry. Don't give into peer pressure: many people, especially college students, give into peer pressure a little too easily. One thing I am proud to say is that I have NEVER given into peer-pressure. But if you do, that is fine, but do not live with regrets. Never let your past actions continue to affect your present and future actions, and feelings, because it will eat you up. Never forget your keys (especially on a night out): the absolute last thing you will want to do after a night out of drinking and partying is have to go to your RA or security guard and have them let you in your room. NOT FUN!! Grades are not everything: as long as you are working hard and dedicating a good amount of time to class and studying, that's all you can do. Find a balance between fun and work: THISS i cannot stress this enough. Use campus facilities: every college offers so many amazing things to their students, take advantage of that. Call your family: it's not embarrassing or weird to stay in contact with your family or miss your family. It's a normal and great thing. If you are not a morning person, don't schedule early classes: you can thank me later. It's so not worth it Have fun & enjoy every moment
- Making time for self-care
In my last blog post I shared a lot about how important it is to maintain a healthy balance of work life and social life but another important part of your life to keep up with is self-care. Taking care of yourself, making time for your needs, and prioritizing your health is an extremely important part of college life. Some mental health self-care things you could include: - Take deep breaths - Meditating - Go outdoors - Go for walks - Give yourself more than enough time to sleep - Make time to spend with your friends Some mental health self-care things I do: - Go to the gym - Listen to music - Read books - Allow myself to release my emotions - Get my nails done - Make time for myself to be alone - Make time to spend with my friends A lot of times people don’t make enough time for themselves, and their mental health, and this creates a negative routine in their life. It is not healthy to not have any personal time, to not spend time with your friends and loved ones, and to not take time out of your day to prioritize your mental health. There are many different forms of self-care and it is extremely important to take care of all of them Physical self-care: - Sleeping - Stretching - Walking - Exercising Emotional self-care: - Stress management - Coping skills - Compassion - Therapy - Journaling Social self-care: - Boundaries - Support system - Positivity - Communication - Friends and family Spiritual self-care: - Time alone - Meditation - Breathing exercises - Listening to music Space self-care: - Safety - Health - Clean space Financial self-care: - Budgeting - Money management - Paying bills - Spending boundaries Work self-care: - Time management - Break time - Positive workspace Many people do not understand the importance of taking care of yourself mentally and physically. Self-care means taking the time to do things that can help you to live well, improve your physical and mental health. In terms of mental health, self-care can help you to manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase energy levels. Self-care can also lead to better relationships, improve self-esteem and build resilience. I just hope everyone can find the importance of self-care and can learn how to fit it into their own lives, and implement it into their daily life and daily routine. Especially, college students, it can be difficult to find enough free-time in the day to do all of these things, but it is extremely important, and I would say necessary.
- The importance of having a social life in college
Keeping up with school work, classes, homework, and studying is obviously extremely important. However, I think it is almost as important to have a healthy balance of school and social life. Sometimes it can be difficult to maintain school work while also keeping up with the college social life. Ensuring a healthy balance of social life and school is also extremely important for the mental health of all college students. If students are constantly neck deep in books and stuck in a constant rotation of stress and work, it creates a very unhealthy routine for a college student. As silly as it may sound, college is not only about the school work, it is also about the experience, the friendships, and the fun. Taking away from your college experience because you are drowning in school work is only going to make college seem like a bad and depressing memory. The best piece of advice I can give any college student, is to embrace it all and have fun, because time flashes before your eyes. Finding and having valuable college friendships improve social life, lead us to success, and make the education feel more satisfying. In order to find friends and improve your social life, does NOT mean you have to go to parties, or drink, or smoke, or give into any kind of peer pressure. Just going to the library with classmates, going to the dining hall with you dorm roommate, or even just talking to your classmates and forming relationships, are all extremely simple things that will change your college experience, for the better. Maintaining friendships in college and keeping up with the social scene in college can also help students improve their mental health by decreasing anxiety and depression, improve self-esteem, and allow them to build healthy relationships. In my experience, I unfortunately was a freshman at Monmouth University during Covid which extremely limited us students from doing any of these things, but I was still able to make the most amazing connections and find my best friends, girls who will one day be my bridesmaids. I am forever grateful to myself for breaking out of my shell freshman year and going completely out of my comfort zone in order to make the friends I did, and have the amazing experience that I did. In conclusion, having a successful social life will make the college experience so much better, easier and satisfying for students. It can surely be difficult to break yourself out of your own shell, but it is also so worth it. I have met the best people and made the best memories and I just hope all students will take my advice when I say that this is the most important part of college. Enjoy it! Embrace it! Go to that party! And live it up!
- How I keep myself in a good routine
When you are a full-time student in college it can be really hard to maintain a solid daily routine. Even once you finally get into that groove and have a solid routine, it’s very easy to fall out of it or to just drop it completely. Making a daily routine that works for you is simply just about finding what works for you, creating time for yourself around your class schedule, and also making time for yourself. My daily routine in 10 steps: 1. wake up: not only waking up, but waking up in a good mood and ready to start the day is absolutely essential to having a good day and completing the rest of your morning routine. 2. wash my face, brush my teeth, and take my vitamins: washing your face will give you a fresh start to your day and vitamins are a simple and great way to keep you healthy. 3. eat a balanced breakfast and have some coffee: eating a balanced breakfast is another great way to start your day. Every morning I eat hash browns and eggs and occasionally some bacon as well! 4. get ready for class (usually an 11:40): comfy clothes- always! 5. finish up classes for the day and come home 6. catch up on some homework: I try to get my homework done as soon as I can so I don't have to procrastinate once the deadline gets closer. 7. have dinner: chicken and rice or just some pasta is my go to. Not much gourmet cooking is going on in my college house. 8. shower and get refreshed: my favorite part of the day is getting showered and getting prepared to finish my night. 9. take some time for myself (read a book, watch tv, or just chill out) 10. get that beauty sleep I have created my daily routine based on my class schedule, things I need to get done, and things I want to do for myself. Obviously, my schedule changes daily because of classes, or going to the gym, or days off, so this routine can be altered. But, this is the simple starting point of my daily routine. I believe it is extremely important for everyone to have a daily routine that makes them feel comfortable but also accomplished. Over working yourself or stressing yourself out over school or any other things puts a huge strain on your mental health, that you may not even realize. Take the time to make time for you <3
- Makeup necessities you NEED for your routine
Having a quick and easy basic makeup routine is absolutely necessary. I am going to give you the inside look into my makeup routine that is so easy, anyone can do it. I am also going to provide pictures of all the products, links to all the products, and a picture of how I contour my face. Hope this helps anyone who is struggling to get down that perfect makeup routine! Step 1: foundation/tinted moisturizer Personally foundation does not work for me because it is too heavy and too much coverage for my liking, so, I use the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB tinted moisturizer and mix it with a few drops of the Drunk Elephant Sunshine drops, in order to make the coloring darker, to match my skin tone better. Step 2: concealer, bronzer, and blush After finishing with my tinted moisturizer, I use concealer, The NARS creamy concealer under my eyes, on my blemishes, in between my eyebrows, on my chin, and my upper lip. Then I use the MILK matte cream bronzer stick in the hallow space under my cheekbones, on my jawline, and around the edges of my forehead. After applying both concealer and bronzer, I then go in with my Rare Beauty Blush, applying it in the space under the concealer and over the bronzer and a small amount on my nose, for that sun-kissed look. A very small amount of this blush goes a long way. Step 3: powders First, I begin with going over the matte bronzer I have already used and I apply my powder bronzer, the Benefit Hoola bronzer, over this in order to set it and give my face a better bronzing. Next, I use my Laura Mercier translucent pressed setting powder, in order to give my face a matted look. Lastly, I apply my highlighter, the Benefit cookie highlighter, directly onto my cheekbones, onto the tip of my nose, and onto my upper lip. Step 4: eyelashes and eyebrows Almost done! But my favorite step is the eyelash and eyebrow step. First, for my eyebrows, depending on the look I’m going for, I either use the Benefit gimme brow for a darker and thicker brow or I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills clear brow gel, for a natural matted brow look. Next for my eyelashes, on a daily basis I use the Smashbox super fan mascara for my everyday natural lashes. However, for a night out, I start with the Better Than Sex waterproof mascara and top it off with the Benefit roller lash mascara. The use of the waterproof mascara keeps your lashes looking perfect all night long. I swear by this mascara combo; it is unbelievable. People constantly ask me if my lashes are fake because of how amazing they look. Step 5: lips Lastly, lips! I usually just keep it very simple and use a basic sparkly pink lip-gloss. My go to is the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb universal lip luminizer Fenty glow in the color $weetmouth. In my opinion, this is the step that just pulls everything together. - Styling 101
When it comes to styling a good outfit, you need to start off with having all the necessary basics. In my last blog post I made a detailed list of all the basic pieces you need, and where I have gotten mine. Now, I am going to give you the steps to help you put together your best looks. Step 1: Choose your foundation piece: using those basic staple pieces you have in your closet, you can use those as the starting piece of your outfit. Whether it’s a simple pair of jeans you like, or a basic white t-shirt, this is the starting point of building your outfit. The best staple pieces to choose from: simple pair of jeans, classic tee, mini skirt, basic long sleeve, solid colored hoodie or crewneck, etc. Step 2: Choose an interest piece: after you choose your first, staple piece, you can now move on to choosing your interest piece, this can be a colored tee shirt to pair with your jeans, a striped long sleeve, textured boots, or any piece that will draw all eyes to you. Pick an interest piece that will either compliment your outfit with a color that will blend well or pick a piece with a nice pop or color or fun print. Step 3: Completer piece: Once you have decided on your foundation piece and interest piece, it’s time to choose a completing piece. A completer piece can vary anywhere from a cardigan, a zip up sweatshirt, a puffer jacket, a trench coat, or a simple belt, pretty much anything that will pull your look together. My go to is typically a simple jean jacket, puffer jacket, or puffer vest. This piece is going to complete your outfit and elevate your look. Step 4: Accessorize: the best way to top off every outfit is by adding accessories such as layered gold necklaces, knee-high boots, nice sneakers, a cute purse, or a nice pair of sunglasses. Accessorizing is the best and easiest way to fully complete any outfit. Accessorizing is certainly my favorite part of building an outfit. My favorite way to accessorize my outfits is by adding jewelry, carrying a cute purse, or wearing some stylish sneakers, or wearing them all! My favorite places to get my jewelry are princess polly, Shein, and Forever 21. This right here is the perfect guide to build the cutest outfits in the easiest and most efficient way. Following these steps, can help anyone to build the perfect outfit. Check out my TikTok and Instagram @tipsforcollegechicks for more styling tips & tricks.

- How to organize your clothes in the most efficient way
My entire life I have been a complete clean freak and an avid organizer. I have learned all the do’s and do not's of organizing my clothes through simple trial and error. DO'S: Color coordination: as silly as it may seem, this a complete game changer. Not only does it make it easier when you're searching for the one green top you're dying to wear, but it's also just SO pretty to look at. So, even if you're super messy, having your clothing color coordinated makes it look like you really have your life together. Upright t-shirt folding: folding your t-shirts into small squares all standing upright, leaving just a sliver of the shirt showing, is one of the best organizing tips I can ever give to you. It saves tons of space and, again, helps you look for that t-shirt you're looking for. Although it might seem tedious, this is something that will change your life. Also, it's just soo nice to look at!! Pant hangers: This is something I have recently changed about my closet, and I am never going back. I always just folded my pants & jeans over a hanger and called it a day until my roommates convinced me I needed pant hangers. Even though I was opposed for a while, I finally gave in, and I do not regret it. It saves so much space in the closet and keeps your pants wrinkle free!! Go through your clothes every few months: We all know we have those clothes that will sit in the back of our closets that are sadly never worn or ever even touched. Do yourself a favor and go through your clothes every few months. Every six months is best, and either donate or sell anything you haven't worn in the past six months. So, if you see a shirt in your closet but don't want to let it go just yet, check back in another 6 months, and if it still hasn't been worn in those 6 months, then get rid of it. Trust me. DO NOT'S: Multiple pieces of clothing on one hanger: Even though this might seem like something that will help save space and create more efficiency, this trick has the opposite effect. Yes, it may save you some space and save you a few extra hangers, but it is not worth it. Not being able to see your clothing also means it will not be worn. Throwing clothes into a drawer: although it may seem obvious, this is certainly something I do not recommend if you are trying to organize your clothes in the best way possible. Again, when your clothes are all thrown on top of each other, then you can't see all of your options, and the clothes shoved in the bottom will be stuck in a constant rotation and never be worn. Have temporary spots for clothes: make sure all of your clothes have a home and don't place items where they do not belong. In the long run, these pieces will get lost and this is going to create an extremely unorganized space.
- What I packed & everything you DON'T need
Packing for college is truly one of the most stressful parts about going to college. When I first began packing I felt like I needed everything. And I mean everything. Over-packing was an understatement. I brought almost every single piece of clothing I owned. Every cleaning product I could get my hands on. Every pink fluffy pillow I found in every single home decor store. Every cute matching folder and notebook set. Every colorful pen. You name it, I had it. It was absolute chaos to say the least. But I will be the first person to tell you that you don’t need over half the shit everyone tells you that you have to have. And do not buy everything beforehand, they have stores near your college I promise. (well unless you go to a weird school with no life or people or homes around it, but I go to school in New Jersey) So, if you know that there is any type of store near you or any way to have things shipped to your dorm/house, then trust me when I say, you can buy so many things you will need AFTER you move in. Some of things that you will absolutely need for the first day you move in include: Cleaning supplies: for when you first move in and want to clean before moving all of your new stuff into the room. And those dorm rooms are so gross and totally not cleaned. Anything that goes on your bed: well you need to sleep on something right? And I know for a fact your mom is going to want to take pictures of you on your new bed for her Facebook page. All chargers, electronics, and power strips: having your parents or roommate help you designate spots to plug in all of your chargers, lamps, clocks, and other electronics is going to be a lot more helpful than you think it will be. Any toiletries and shower necessities: You are going to want and need all of your toiletries and shower necessities not only to use them but to also begin organizing them. Clothes & shoes: Again, not only are you going to want and need your clothes and shoes for wearing, but you’re going to need them in order to start organizing. Some things you do not need!!! Extra furniture: unless it is absolutely necessary or you have the space Too much clothing: you only can fit so much, don't bring too much Space heaters: you will be hot, don't do it. Too many shoes: you only need a few pairs. I promise you don't need that many. Kitchen appliances: Unless you are a chef, you will not be cooking. Large suitcase: where do you plan on putting that? If there are any things you are bringing to move into your dorm, apartment, or house that you know you are not going to need on the very first day or few days of moving in, then do not bring it! Don’t stress yourself out with having so many things to unpack and organize on the first day if not absolutely necessary. Good luck to you all!!!
- Decorating my college rooms
Being a junior in college now, I have had 3 different rooms throughout my time here in college. I have lived in one dorm room and two rooms in two different houses. In this blog post I will be showing you how I decorated my spaces and how I feel about them! My freshman year, I lived in a dorm for the first time and I was beyond thrilled to be able to decorate a new room from scratch. I did research, found picture inspiration and created mood boards for months before I moved in. I chose a neutral pallet including light pink, light grey and white. Being comfortable and feeling cozy in my new space was my main priority, with style coming in at a close second priority. I started off with a light grey snow leopard printed headboard with a white comforter, and many pink fluffy throw pillows. I then added a gold cursive name plate for above my headboard and filled my wall up next to my bed with some cool pictures. The room felt very comfortable and made me feel so at home! For my sophomore year, I moved into an off-campus house and was blessed to have the master bedroom in the house. For this room I went for a more preppy and uplifting theme because I was able to work with much more space. The walls were also blue which made decorating the way I wanted to a little bit more difficult. Again I started with a comfy white comforter and added some colorful throw pillows and a beautiful black and white striped blanket to match my rug. I went a very different direction with this theme, but I ended up loving it just as much as my freshman year dorm room. This style was much different for me but it was such a bright and fun room, yet was still so cozy! This year, as a junior, I am living in another off-campus house with another very large room. This year I decided to go again with bright fun colors, but this time I chose orange and pink, my two current favorite colors. While the colors are still very bright, they also have a very calming tone to them. This is for sure my favorite room design so far and I am living for the fun prints on my wall that go along with the fun throw pillows and blankets. Again, this room was so bright and fun but it still has that home cozy vibes. I have always loved interior design and decorating rooms for myself and my friends. All of these rooms differ so much but still all fit my vibe so well. I feel as if decorating rooms is great for portraying and expressing creativity and vibes. Being able to express yourself, especially in college, is extremely important, so you do not lose sight of who you are or forget all that you can do. I can’t wait to see how I decorate my senior year's room and I would love to see all of your design ideas!!
- How I found my college & my people
Picking where you are going to go to college can be insanely stressful, but it can also be the most exhilarating experience of your life if you let it. When it came time for me to apply for college, I had no idea what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go, or where to even start. I went into a panic and somehow convinced myself that I would not get into any college and I would have no future. But of course, that was not the case. I ended up getting into all 10 schools I applied to and was left with a very big decision. I made about 1000 pro and con lists for all 10 schools, which only left me even more confused. I finally decided that I just needed to sit down and think about what I wanted, where I imagined myself and I knew almost instantly. Once I realized this, I didn't know how I could imagine myself anywhere else besides Monmouth University. It was the perfect place for me. Only an hour and a half from home, right on the beach, and still in New Jersey, the best state ever. Once I told my family they couldn't have been more excited. I could not wait to start a whole new chapter of my life. Once I got to college, it was a surreal experience. Unlimited freedom, unlimited gross dining hall food, and unlimited people to meet. Meeting new people is very intimidating, especially for someone who is very shy, like me. I was terrified to go to college and to have to make all new friends and be in a new environment. However, I made a promise to myself that when I got to college I would come out of my shell and I would do everything I could to make amazing friends and have an amazing college experience, and I did just that. I forced myself out of my comfort zone and out of my shell and I met so many amazing people, made the best friends I could have ever imagined, and I am having the time of my life in college. If I could give anyone only 1 piece of advice for college, it would be to do everything in your power to meet people and get yourself out there within the first few weeks of college. This is the most crucial time of your freshman year of college to meet people, make friends, and get yourself out there. Doing this can be so uncomfortable, yes, but that is the one thing that I can say changed my college experience for the best. Push your limits, get out of your comfort zone. It was one of the most difficult things for me to do but I made a decision to push myself out of my comfort zone and become more social then I ever thought possible. To me, college was all about starting fresh, so if you feel the same about going into your college experience, then trust me and step out of the box, You got this!
