Styling 101

When it comes to styling a good outfit, you need to start off with having all the necessary basics. In my last blog post I made a detailed list of all the basic pieces you need, and where I have gotten mine. Now, I am going to give you the steps to help you put together your best looks.

Step 1: Choose your foundation piece: using those basic staple pieces you have in your closet, you can use those as the starting piece of your outfit. Whether it’s a simple pair of jeans you like, or a basic white t-shirt, this is the starting point of building your outfit.

The best staple pieces to choose from: simple pair of jeans, classic tee, mini skirt, basic long sleeve, solid colored hoodie or crewneck, etc.

Step 2: Choose an interest piece: after you choose your first, staple piece, you can now move on to choosing your interest piece, this can be a colored tee shirt to pair with your jeans, a striped long sleeve, textured boots, or any piece that will draw all eyes to you. Pick an interest piece that will either compliment your outfit with a color that will blend well or pick a piece with a nice pop or color or fun print.

Step 3: Completer piece: Once you have decided on your foundation piece and interest piece, it’s time to choose a completing piece. A completer piece can vary anywhere from a cardigan, a zip up sweatshirt, a puffer jacket, a trench coat, or a simple belt, pretty much anything that will pull your look together. My go to is typically a simple jean jacket, puffer jacket, or puffer vest. This piece is going to complete your outfit and elevate your look.

Step 4: Accessorize: the best way to top off every outfit is by adding accessories such as layered gold necklaces, knee-high boots, nice sneakers, a cute purse, or a nice pair of sunglasses. Accessorizing is the best and easiest way to fully complete any outfit. Accessorizing is certainly my favorite part of building an outfit. My favorite way to accessorize my outfits is by adding jewelry, carrying a cute purse, or wearing some stylish sneakers, or wearing them all! My favorite places to get my jewelry are princess polly, Shein, and Forever 21.
