In my last blog post I shared a lot about how important it is to maintain a healthy balance of work life and social life but another important part of your life to keep up with is self-care. Taking care of yourself, making time for your needs, and prioritizing your health is an extremely important part of college life.

Some mental health self-care things you could include:

- Take deep breaths

- Meditating

- Go outdoors

- Go for walks

- Give yourself more than enough time to sleep

- Make time to spend with your friends

Some mental health self-care things I do:

- Go to the gym

- Listen to music

- Read books

- Allow myself to release my emotions

- Get my nails done

- Make time for myself to be alone

- Make time to spend with my friends

A lot of times people don’t make enough time for themselves, and their mental health, and this creates a negative routine in their life. It is not healthy to not have any personal time, to not spend time with your friends and loved ones, and to not take time out of your day to prioritize your mental health.

There are many different forms of self-care and it is extremely important to take care of all of them

Physical self-care:

- Sleeping

- Stretching

- Walking

- Exercising

Emotional self-care:

- Stress management

- Coping skills

- Compassion

- Therapy

- Journaling

Social self-care:

- Boundaries

- Support system

- Positivity

- Communication

- Friends and family

Spiritual self-care:

- Time alone

- Meditation

- Breathing exercises

- Listening to music

Space self-care:

- Safety

- Health

- Clean space

Financial self-care:

- Budgeting

- Money management

- Paying bills

- Spending boundaries

Work self-care:

- Time management

- Break time

- Positive workspace

Many people do not understand the importance of taking care of yourself mentally and physically. Self-care means taking the time to do things that can help you to live well, improve your physical and mental health. In terms of mental health, self-care can help you to manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase energy levels. Self-care can also lead to better relationships, improve self-esteem and build resilience.

I just hope everyone can find the importance of self-care and can learn how to fit it into their own lives, and implement it into their daily life and daily routine. Especially, college students, it can be difficult to find enough free-time in the day to do all of these things, but it is extremely important, and I would say necessary.
