My entire life I have been a complete clean freak and an avid organizer. I have learned all the do’s and do not's of organizing my clothes through simple trial and error.
DO'S:
Color coordination: as silly as it may seem, this a complete game changer. Not only does it make it easier when you're searching for the one green top you're dying to wear, but it's also just SO pretty to look at. So, even if you're super messy, having your clothing color coordinated makes it look like you really have your life together.
Upright t-shirt folding: folding your t-shirts into small squares all standing upright, leaving just a sliver of the shirt showing, is one of the best organizing tips I can ever give to you. It saves tons of space and, again, helps you look for that t-shirt you're looking for. Although it might seem tedious, this is something that will change your life. Also, it's just soo nice to look at!!
Pant hangers: This is something I have recently changed about my closet, and I am never going back. I always just folded my pants & jeans over a hanger and called it a day until my roommates convinced me I needed pant hangers. Even though I was opposed for a while, I finally gave in, and I do not regret it. It saves so much space in the closet and keeps your pants wrinkle free!!
Go through your clothes every few months: We all know we have those clothes that will sit in the back of our closets that are sadly never worn or ever even touched. Do yourself a favor and go through your clothes every few months. Every six months is best, and either donate or sell anything you haven't worn in the past six months. So, if you see a shirt in your closet but don't want to let it go just yet, check back in another 6 months, and if it still hasn't been worn in those 6 months, then get rid of it. Trust me.
DO NOT'S:
Multiple pieces of clothing on one hanger: Even though this might seem like something that will help save space and create more efficiency, this trick has the opposite effect. Yes, it may save you some space and save you a few extra hangers, but it is not worth it. Not being able to see your clothing also means it will not be worn.
Throwing clothes into a drawer: although it may seem obvious, this is certainly something I do not recommend if you are trying to organize your clothes in the best way possible. Again, when your clothes are all thrown on top of each other, then you can't see all of your options, and the clothes shoved in the bottom will be stuck in a constant rotation and never be worn.
Have temporary spots for clothes: make sure all of your clothes have a home and don't place items where they do not belong. In the long run, these pieces will get lost and this is going to create an extremely unorganized space.
